Not A Team Player(NATP) is a collaboration of five graduates from the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts at HKAPA. We are a creative group exploring the boundary of audio-visual installation in an immersive space. Art is defined in terms of presentation and location, and is closely related to time, space and audience. Nowadays, theatre space applications are all-inclusive. Inter-media art creations have emerged in large and small theatres. It is difficult to set boundaries for performances and installations. Therefore, NATP is found to conceive a direction to explore the theatre space through a performance and seek to show the uniqueness of performance and installation art in the same space. Our works focusing on cross-disciplinary visual and sonic media, elevating the unique aesthetics of light and sound into immersive performances and installations. We presented our first installation at HKAPA Open Day 2019, later we came up with the audiovisual collaboration called 420 BAD TRIP and 2020.
Sunset Concert 2021
Annual Academy Music Concert
24 JULY 2021
Drama Theatre, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts
School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts Presents
Herman Wong x manvsmachine
We humans are complicated species.
We strive for intimacy, yet keeping distance from others to protect our fragile feelings. As lights fade and notes vibrate through the air, we will become more than us.
Here, we are one.
The Sunset Concert was produced yearly by students from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) for over twenty years. It provides a platform for different local music talents and artists to share their music to the public. Sunset Concert is an annual extravaganza, intending to share the learning progress and new ideas in the concert production. With support from different areas, we are going to let this dignity go on and organize the ‘’Sunset Concert 2021’’.
This year, we have invited Herman Wong and manvsmachine to stage in our show. We have full confidence that this year will be another fruitful year and leads to great success.
As a species with variety, we humans often come with different gender, appearances, edges and personalities. These grant each of us unique colours and aura that express our individuality, but at the same time we’re often kept apart by our own distinctiveness. As you go through the gate, there will be no more race, nationality, religion and gender. The difference between you and me will become blurry and all of our consciousness will slowly be united into thin air.
The only thing that will be left is the last note vibrating through the air, and the vision that eventually greyed out by a flash of glare.
“Where words fail, music speak.”
As we believe the music could be the universal language, audience are going to immerse in the atmosphere we created and become integrated with each other. Either people come from the dark side or the bright side, the united world should be in a grey tone in our interpretation. Each of us will be connected, made no distinction and understanding each other.

420 Bad Trip
Immersive Audiovisual Collaboration
18-19 JULY 2019
Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts
School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts Presents
This was an immersive audio-visual show performed in the Studio Theatre of HKAPA. It was a journey guided by creation tended to go through the different dimension. By using an advance surround sound engine to configure the multiple speakers system and the
combination of lighting element, visual projection and ambience music, we were able to create an immersive atmosphere for the audience and expand the limited space with the unlimited creativity.
The concept of dimension does not only exist in the level of thinking about science and rationality, but also on the logic of space time at the level of the mind. Our intellectual and physical body can only live in the three-dimensional projection layer, and all the projection layers can only appear in the mind. That is to say, our concept can only come from the real world where the flesh is in the body. Once you have detached from the current multidimensional space, time space is only developed from a single timeline, but can be infinitely mixed. With one more dimension, you can see the aesthetic world at the geometric level.
There is no auditorium in the performance, and the whole creation will match the theme of the point of view within all dimensions. The work will be divided into four parts, each of which will focus on one dimension.
The overlapping circles grid, or called, the Flower of Life, is the fountainhead of all inspiration, and it is well presented for our conceptual idea. The Flower of Life is a geometric shape that developed from lots of circle to a symmetrical hexagon structure.
The forms of the symbol represented the mixed of different universe in all dimension. They are all take an equal quantity, overlapping each other while they still take their own place within the circle. Like our performance, the visualisation and auditory sense are serving an equal part of the show. They have their distinct path on going, and on the other hand they collaborate together, as to sum up the ideas along with the performance. When the circle comes to an end, it is sempiternal.
